Two Birds - Making Time for Self Care and Friendship
Friendship, self-care, and making space for both
Why Making Time for Self Care Felt So Hard
Life has a way of coming at us all at once.
From bathing, feeding, and consoling my teething daughter, to business meetings and deadlines, to running the household—keeping the fridge stocked, bathrooms clean, laundry washed and folded—to being the only daughter of older parents who rely on me for help… to being a wife and nurturing that relationship… to loving on and nurturing myself.
Sigh.
A deep exhalation is what this moment calls for.
What I Used to Get Wrong about Balance
Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for all of it. But your girl is busy, busy, busy.
And in the chaos of daily life, it’s easy to forget about another relationship that matters just as much: the one we have with our friends.
It can’t all be done at once… or can it?
A few weeks ago, I decided to carve out time for a little self-care with my sister-from-another-mister. My intention was simple: take care of myself while also nurturing our relationship.
Two birds, one very necessary stone.
What Making Space Can Look Like
We spent the day at a spa—facials, manicures, foot treatments, and a massage.
There was meaningful conversation.
And there was meaningful silence.
Both felt equally nourishing.
To me, that was the perfect balance.
